Why You Will Fail At Your New Year's Resolution. Again.

Yipee! Smash 2022 by taking massive action and here’s how!!
What is that one resolution that you want to achieve so badly?
Is it exercise, diet, starting a business, date nights with your spouse, working for that promotion, stopping drinking, overcoming procrastination, spiritual connection, spending more quality time with your children?
My 2022 resolution for both my business and personal life is to get out more!!!
I like how the New Year gives us an option to reset with resolutions. It feels hopeful, doesn’t it?
𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐅𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐰𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐦 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥!
Do you ever wonder why?
The reason is simple. We count on willpower to get us the desired habits, beliefs, and actions.
𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥, 𝐧𝐨𝐧-𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦.
My friend, willpower itself can be the source of self-sabotage.
According to American Psychological Association & most psychology researchers define willpower as:
☑️ The ability to delay gratification and resist short-term temptations to meet long-term goals;
☑️ The capacity to override an unwanted thought, feeling, or impulse;
☑️ The conscious, effortful regulation of the self, by the self;
☑️ A limited resource capable of being depleted.
Now read that again!!! Doesn’t it sound like willpower takes too much energy?
In other words, you have to be good at ' self-control'.
𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐠𝐠𝐥𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐮𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐝𝐲 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬.
Or what the subconscious wants versus what the conscious believes to be true.
So instead of relying on willpower to help you ace that resolution, you might want to consider this:
✅ Take that resolution and break it down to specific goals. You know the drill... S.M.A.R.T goals.
✅ Secondly, focus on the person you need to be to achieve those goals. Instead of saying to yourself, I must lose 20 kgs in 2022, how about changing that to an empowering question like ‘how can I change my eating habits to healthy ones that I can enjoy whilst I work towards my 20kg weight loss goal?
✅ Focus on your thoughts. The results you see today are because of your thoughts. In the same way, your thoughts about your new year’s resolution will create the same result.
𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐠𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐝𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐚𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐬.
In the end, you will create willpower that serves you.
The only way you can consistently show up for that resolution is if you consistently work on your thoughts about your goals.
So go on and smash 2022 goals with this model in action. Your thoughts create your feelings, your feelings create your actions and your actions create your results.
